Notes:	Cory passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 26, 2017, at Kosciusko Community Hospital. He was only 33 years old. We will hold the memories we shared with Cory close to our hearts, and we will never forget him. Survivors include his wife, Kara Alvey; daughter, Relayna Alvey; son, Jace Alvey; father, Steve Alvey, of Fort Wayne; and grandmother, Arloa Alvey, of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Malana Alvey; sister, Amanda Jackson; and grandparents, Donald Alvey; and Cec and Midge Harrison. Visitation is 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with a funeral service to start at 4 p.m. Certified Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus will be officiating. Destined to always seek out fast spinning wheels for the thrill and fresh air, Cory A. Alvey lived life in the fast lane. He was inquisitive and interested in how just about anything worked, and he would spend hours tinkering around with something that needed repair. Always adept with his hands, he had a knack for fixing anything broken. Taken too soon, we will fondly remember the good times we shared to help endure the loss we now feel. In the midst of the 80's decade, 1984 was a particularly good year, especially in terms of entertainment. Los Angeles, California proudly hosted the Summer Olympic Games during which Mary Lou Retton created quite a legacy in her gymnastics performance. Movie-goers were enthralled by the work of Steven Speilberg and George Lucas in their movie "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." Without leaving their living rooms, families all over the country gathered around anticipating the start of the major television hit, "The Cosby Show." All of this while the presidential election proved to be no contest for President Ronald Reagan, as he was easily reelected over Walter Mondale. Closer to home in Indiana, Steve and Malana (Harrison) Alvey were awaiting the arrival of their sweet son. On March 23, 1984, Cory was welcomed into the world in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Cory spent his childhood growing up in Whitley County along with his older sister Amanda. He was a typical adventurous boy. He loved to spend his time outdoors - in the summers, he would explore and look forward to fishing with his grandparents at Bear Lake on the weekends. He and his sister would spend hours splashing in the water and soaking up the warm sunshine. In the colder months, he would still venture outdoors, but he always found something inside that captured his interest too. Mostly, he found great entertainment in taking anything and everything apart to see how it worked. This curiosity was definitely Cory's main trademark, as he never lost the desire to know how things were put together. During his educational years, Cory attended Indian Springs Middle School and then Columbia City High School. He was into wrestling and was involved with Boy Scouts of America through his senior year in high school. He graduated with the class of 2002. Upon graduation, he began working at Kendallville Iron and Metal while taking a few college courses. After some time, he found another job at CRI working as a heavy equipment operator and taking a position as a union member. Love followed Cory around for awhile before he decided to act on it. Kara Boger was a constant figure in Cory's life for some time. Their romance was sparked when Cory asked her to detail his car for him. When he did not show up at the scheduled time, the next day, he stopped by Kara's work to apologize and to ask her out on a date. She accepted and never had to detail his care. The two later decided to get married and wedding bells rang on May 17, 2008. The couple celebrated the expansion of their family when they were blessed with a daughter, Relayna and then a son, Jace. Cory proved to be an equally adventurous father to his children. He loved to spend time teaching his children how to fish, and he shared his passion for the thrill of speed when they rode dirt bikes and go-carts together. Cory enjoyed shooting guns, and he taught Jace the proper and safe techniques of gun handling and shooting. When Cory was not working to support his family or hanging out with his kids, he found many activities to keep him busy. Anything that went fast captured Cory's attention, so he loved four-wheeling and riding dirt bikes and motorcycles. Of course, when those activities were not a possibility for the day, he would find something with which to tinker. He was always a welcomed sight to friends and family when a car was not cooperating. Cory could fix it and lessen the hassle and expense of a taking it to the shop for repair. His adventurous spirit and his company will be dearly missed.
