Edward DeWayne Knight, 50, of Huntington [Indiana], formerly of Columbia City, died peacefully at his home at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2021, after a years-long battle with cancer.

He was born March 19, 1970, in Columbia City, Indiana, a son of Homer and Altona (Johnson) Knight. Raised in Columbia City, he completed elementary school at Mary Raber and attended Columbia City Joint High School. He completed his GED in 2012.

On December 12, 2007, he was united in marriage to Delsa M. Nierman Emerick. They made their home in Columbia City. In 2009, they moved to Huntington.

From 2000 to 2009, he was employed by Steve Reiff, Inc. South Whitley. In 2009, he went to work for Onward Manufacturing in Huntington until his health declined.

An avid bowler, he belonged to two bowling leagues, one in Fort Wayne and the other in Huntington. Enjoying the outdoors, he liked mushroom hunting in the spring and deer hunting in the fall/winter. An accomplished longbow hunter, he eventually moved to a compound bow. Through the warm weather months, he was a loyal NASCAR fan watching the races. In football season, he cheered on his beloved Green Bay Packers and the Spartans of Michigan State.

Surviving is his wife, Delsa; three sons, Austin (Tabitha) Miller of Rochester, Homer Joe Knight of Columbia City, Kyle D. Knight of Warsaw; his father, Homer Knight of Columbia City, his mother, Altona Heffley of Columbia City; step-children, Danny L. Emerick, Landon J. Emerick, both of Huntington, Autumn M. Emerick of Fort Wayne, and Darren Diaz of Columbia City; six grandchildren; a brother, Garrison H. Knight of Columbia City and a step-sister, Samantha Riffe of South Whitley.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Knight; a brother, Dallas Knight; maternal grandparents, Garrison & Mary Lewis and Juanita & Mitchell Johnson; paternal grandparents, Russel & Ruby Knight; uncles, Roger Knight and Albert Johnson.

The funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

Burial is at the South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Please call the funeral home for an appointment time due to current Covid-19 restrictions.

Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
