Notes:

Gregory Kent Walker, 61, of Ava, Missouri passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, August 22, 2023 at his farm. Born March 10, 1962 in Columbia City, Indiana, he was the son of Jerry and Betty (Wherry) Walker.

He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1980 and received both of his bachelor’s degrees from Purdue University.

On May 26, 1984, he married Lynn Ann Stanley at Oak Grove Church of God in Columbia City. They moved to Newton County where they lived for nearly 30 years before relocating to Douglas County, Missouri in 2012. Greg taught at North Newton High School for 22 years as an Ag teacher and FFA Advisor, mentoring hundreds of students.

After retiring from teaching, he became a full-time cat and cattle rancher in Missouri, fulfilling a lifelong dream of building a large herd of cattle that, in his words, “work for you”.

Greg had a dry wit and loved to laugh. Greg was an avid fisherman, voracious reader, and lover of music. He had a habit of making friends wherever he went, and was a loyal friend to all that held the honor.

Greg is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Lynn Walker; daughter, Lauren (Ryan Lord) Walker; son, Ian Walker; sister, Sue (Jerry) Wood; brother, Doug (Amber) Walker; and a large loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm Monday, August 28, 2023 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN 46725. Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor P.J. Parker. Burial will follow at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his parents.

With the family traveling out of state, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his memory to Riley Children’s Hospital at https://rileykids.org/.
