Notes:	At 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, Melodye Nulf unexpectedly passed away at the age of 62. She is survived by her loving husband of over 43 years, Bob Nulf, of Big Lake; two sons, Brad Nulf, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Brian Nulf, of Big Lake; two granddaughters, Alexandra Smith and Sarah Nulf; brother, John (Emma) Wall, of Columbia City; sister-in-law, Shirley Wall, of Fort Wayne; and brother-in-law, Urban Shatzer, of Hartford City. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ted Wall; and sister, Diana Shatzer. A gathering of family and friends will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2019 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus officiating. Memorial gifts may be given in her memory to the American Heart Association. Perfect, amazing and happy were just a few of the words Mel Nulf's family could use to describe such a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Many times, throughout the years Mel had to be the voice of reasoning while raising her two sons along with her husband. It was a true gift and reward for raising her boys to welcome two granddaughters, Alexandra and Sarah into her heart and home. The final new episode of the classic television comedy, , "I Love Lucy" was last aired in 1957. The year saw the peak of the "baby boomers", Elvis Presley purchased Graceland, the first nuclear reactor plant opened in Pennsylvania and the first space satellite Sputnik 1 was launched. Popular toys that children wanted that year included the marketing of the first Frisbee, electric toy machine guns, juke boxes, the Chemcraft Master Lab, and the Atomic Missile pedal car. That year on March 30th, in Huntington, Indiana, Melodye A. Nulf was welcomed into this world. She was the daughter of Clarence Ted and Ruth Virginia (Ellis) Wall. Mel grew up in the Roanoke area before her family moved north of Columbia City to Tri-Lakes. She was involved with the Future Farmers of America group while attending Columbia City Joint High School. During her sophomore year, she was the Valentines' Queen and Robert E. Nulf quickly noticed her at the dance. Bob eventually started talking to her that night and soon began dating. Following her graduation with the Class of 1975, the two were married on August 30, 1975. Being a hard and dedicated worker, Mel started working at Whitley Memorial Hospital as she attended high school. She showed dedication by working her entire career with the hospital and continued to work for the hospital at its newly opened facility in 2011, Parkview Whitley Hospital. In Mel's spare time, she loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed traveling to visit her son Brad as he was stationed throughout the United States as he served in the U.S. Air Force. She also enjoyed swimming and decorating. It was shocking news to her family when they learned that she was being transported to the hospital where she was on her way to work at.
