Rev. Richard A. Bremer, 58, of Stewardson, Ill., died at 9:24 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson, Ill. with Rev. Michael Mohr officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the church and one hour before service time on Saturday. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, Ill. Arrangements are made by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, Ill.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School.

Rev. Bremer was born Oct. 24, 1955, in Columbia City, the son of Paul Martin Arnold and Isabelle Jane Wolfe Bremer. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in the Class of 1974, Concordia College in River Forest, Ill. in 1979, and Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne in 1983.

He served Grace Lutheran Church, Malden, Mo., as a vicar during his seminary training (1981-82). Rev. Bremer also served as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Iuka, Ill. (1983-89), Zion Lutheran Church, New Holland, Ill. (1989-92), St. John's Lutheran Church, Beardstown, Ill. (1992-2004) and for the last nine years, Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson, Ill.

He dearly loved his church, the people and playing games with the kids. Rev. Bremer was a member of the Trinity Church Choir.

He served his church body, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, as a delegate to the national convention and as a circuit counselor, as well as zone counselor for the LWML.

He served the communities in which he lived in various roles, including being a member of the COWS community strategic planning group in Stewardson, serving as mentor in the DADZ program at the Effingham Family Life Center, and coaching basketball at St. John's Lutheran School in Beardstown.

He married Sharon Marie Hennig Aug. 7, 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Jason (Danielle) Bremer of Lexington, Ky.; daughter, Caroline (Shawn) Beck of Arenzville, Ill.; grandson, Bryson Paul Beck of Arenzville, Ill.; mother, Jane Fuller of Warsaw; brother, David Bremer of Columbia City; and sisters, Judy (Larry) Waldron of Goshen, Mary (Ralph) Sexton of Columbia City, and Cathy (Yulee) Kirchaine of Hampton, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Bremer; and stepfather, Claude Fuller.
