ATKINS, Va. Kerry I. Nichols, 62, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va. He was born in Evansville, Ind., on November 10, 1950, and was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Jack Talley.

Mr. Nichols was a retired truck driver who enjoyed action and western movies and reading.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Patricia Lynne Nichols; his children, Tony Nichols and wife, Mariah, Urich, Mo., and Angela McCoy, Pierceton, Ind.; his father,James Nichols, Fort Wayne, Ind.; his step-children, Karen Barnes and husband, Joe, Atkins, Va., Jason Hall, Marion, Va.; his siblings, Timothy Nichols and wife, Donna Lou, Hudson, Colo., Virginia Caley, Tucson, Ariz., Carol Nichols, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Chris Marsh and husband, Fred, Fort Wayne, Ind.; his grandchildren, Hunter McCoy, Terron McCoy, Kiel McCoy, and Lily Nichols; and his special pets, Shiloh, Bubba, Fred, and Penny.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Abundant Life Christian Center with Pastor Dave Scott officiating. The family will receive friends anytime at the family's residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas TX 75231. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home of Marion is serving the family.
