Dennis J. Hatfield, 74, of Magnolia, TX, died Thurs, April 23, 2021.

He was born Nov. 25, 1946, in Wolf Lake, IN, to James W. and Evelyn “Virginia” (Wood) Hatfield. His formative years were spent in Columbia City, IN, where he attended Marshall Memorial & graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1965.

Dennis served two tours in Vietnam in the U.S. Navy where his ship, the USS Princeton provided amphibious support in S Vietnam. Later, while he was on the Princeton it was the prime recovery ship for the Nation’s Apollo 10 Moon Mission pilots.

On August 28, 1971, he was united in marriage to Janet K. Eley of Bluffton, IN at the Bluffton United Methodist Church. After living in Fort Wayne for several years, they moved to Magnolia, TX.

Following his military tours of duty, he was employed by American Van Lines and Sears Roebuck & Co in Fort Wayne. After managing the Buchanan Tire store in Columbia City, Dennis purchased the business & changed the name to Columbia City Tire Mart. Upon moving to Magnolia, TX, he was a Financial Agent for Aprc Inc. in Houston until his retirement. In his retirement he enjoyed his grandchildren & traveling.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Janet of 49 years; daughters, Lisa (Sean) Patton & Kristen (Preston) Mears; 3 granddaughters, 2 grandsons; and a brother, James (Karen) Hatfield II of Columbia City.

Preceding him in death were his parents, James W. and Evelyn “Virginia” (Wood) Hatfield and a brother, Phillip Hatfield.

There will be no services. Arrangements and Cremation were made by Magnolia Funeral Home's partner Addison Funeral Home.
