Richard Lee Gross, 68, formerly from Columbia City, and Orange, Calif., died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015, at his home in Hurricane, Utah. He was born April 18, 1947 in Wray, Colo., a son of George Junior and Anita Suffel Gross.

He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1965.

Mr. Gross served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from May 31, 1965 until he was honorably discharged Jan. 3, 1969. He served in the Reserves until March 23, 1971. He earned the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Marksmanship Badge-Rifle Expert and Marksmanship Badge-Pistol Expert.

On May 23, 1968, he was united in marriage to Lorraine A. Roels in Santa Ana, Calif, and she survives.

Richard lived in Orange, Calif., retiring from Boeing Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. December of 2012. He was employed by McDonnell Douglas and later Boeing for 29 years. In November of 2013, he moved to Hurricane, Utah.

Other survivors include one son, Darrin L. Gross, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one daughter, Leslie A. Gross, of Anaheim, Calif.; four grandchildren; his mother, Anita R. Gross, of Columbia City; and brother, Phil Gross, of Fort Wayne.

Mr. Gross was preceded in death by his father, George Gross; and a brother, Gary W. Hensel.
