Notes:	Max Ray Sandmeyer, 70, Greenwood [Indiana], passed away suddenly September 27, 2016. Born April 12, 1946 in Fort Wayne, IN, he was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was the recipient of two purple hearts. He served on the Illinois State Police for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion, FOP and the NRA. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Sharon Kay Sandmeyer; children, Candee (Jerry) Myers; stepchildren, Wendy (Robert) Schwartz and Billy Jack Mefford; mother, Francis (Slusher) Sandmeyer; three grandchildren, McKenzie Schwartz, Jackson Schwartz, and Christian Mefford; siblings, Duane Sandmeyer, Barbara Perry, Maxine Thatcher and David Sandmeyer. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 3 from 11- 1:00 PM at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 South State Road 135 and Olive Branch Road, followed by the service at 1:00 PM. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Jack Mefford, Christian Mefford, Robert Schwartz, McKenzie Schwartz, Jackson Schwartz, Jerry Meyers, Don Murphy. Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana State Police Memorial Fund. NOTES from 4-29-2015 update: Entered US Army in 1965 until 1967, served and was wounded in Viet Nam. After Viet Nam, I became a Military Policeman located in Ft. Knox, Ky. After the service I moved to Illinois and became an Illinois State Trooper and retired in 1993 after 25 years. Obtained various jobs after retirement to pass the time and now I just enjoy my family and relax by boating, fishing, golfing, hunting and maybe an occasional beer, imagine that.
