Pamela Sue "Pam" Cornell, 63, of Monticello, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Monticello.

Born in Columbia City on July 5, 1944, a daughter of Leonard Warner and Helen Elizabeth (Barker) Barnum, she graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1962. She went on to graduate from Indiana University with a bachelor of science degree in education and received a masters degree from Manchester College in North Manchester.

On Nov. 3, 1963, she was united in marriage to Robert Dean "Bob" Cornell in Columbia City. They had lived in the Monticello community since 1991.

A retired school teacher, she was a special education teacher in Lafayette, Twin Lakes, North Newton, Warsaw and Logansport communities. While at Twin Lakes, she was in charge of the alternative school and had served as a principal at Oaklawn Elementary School.

She was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; daughters, Angela (Robert) Moon of Dayton, Ohio, and Julianne (Michael) Topp of Monticello; sons, Christopher (Tauyna) Cornell of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Aaron (Amber) Cornell of Tigard, Ore.; Andrew (Lori) Cornell of Fishers, and Adam Cornell of College Station, Texas; brothers, Charles (Roseanne) Barnum of Kendallville and Steven (Sue) Barnum of Barrington, Ill.; and 15 grandchildren.

Her parents preceded her in death.

The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, with the Rev. Brian Beeks of Monticello United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home located at 6368 E. US 24, Monticello. Burial is at I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello.

Memorials may be directed to Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 2990 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Suite 300 C, Los Angeles, CA 90064. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
