Carolyn Joann Boyd, 75, of rural Kimmel [Indiana] passed away peacefully at her home at 6:16 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019. She had been in declining health.

She was born April 26, 1943 in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, Indiana a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Grace L. (Longenecker) Heckman. Her formative years were spent in Thorncreek Twp. and she graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1961.

On January 1, 1963 she was united in marriage to Larry L. Boyd. They have always made their home in the Wolf Lake area.

Since 1975, she worked at the family business, Boyd Machine and Repair, Wolf Lake. Since 1990, she became a caregiver for their wheelchair-bound son, Mark.

She was a charter member of the Berean Baptist Church, Albion.

She enjoyed fishing and traveling with her sister-in-laws, especially to see Daniel O’Donnell concerts in Branson, MO and Ireland. She had been in all 50 states.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry; three children, Mark A. Boyd, Wolf Lake, Marie J. (Rod) Hall, Albion and Matthew J. (Dawn) Boyd, Columbia City; four grandchildren, Caroline Boyd, Matthew Boyd, J., Rebecca Boyd and Steven Boyd, all of Columbia City; two brothers, Eugene (Karen) Heckman, Columbia City and Gary (Libby) Heckman, Kalamazoo, MI and sister-in-laws, Juanita Boyd, Ossian and Charlotte Boyd, Brandon, MS.

The funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Berean Baptist Church, 110 Highland Park Drive, Albion. Burial is in the Wolf Lake Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Preferred memorials are to the Carolyn J. Boyd Scholarship Fund c/o Cornerstone Christian Church or Baptist Children’s Home.
