Barbara "Kay" Helfrich, 79, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away at 6:33 am on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born September 3, 1939 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Robert "Henry" and Louise (Louise Blew) Helfrich.

Kay graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1957. She had previously lived in Hendersonville, Tennessee before moving back. For over 40 years, Kay had been a nanny. She also enjoyed making handmade quilts, crocheting, reading, and listening to country music.

Survivors include her sister, Sandra Johnson, of Columbia City; nieces, Deb (Scott) Fairchild, of Columbia City and Janet (Wadye) Draper; of South Whitley; one great-niece; two great-nephews; two cousins; and extended family Cory (Cheryl) Birchfield, Harold Hawkins, and Donnie Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Helfrich.

A graveside service for Kay will be held at Union Township Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive Columbia City.
