Ronald D. Egolf, age 84, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 2:50 pm on Sunday November 29, 2020 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born on May 31, 1936 in Washington Township, he was the son of Everett and Lucille (Hively) Egolf.

Ronald attended Columbia City High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. He then worked at Weatherhead before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corp until 1958. Following that he served in U. S. Air Force until 1961. On February 4, 1966 Ronald married Phyllis Smith in Columbia City.

Ronald worked for Blue Bell and LML Engineering prior to joining the Columbia City Police Department in 1964. After his retirement in 1984 he worked for Northeastern REMC for 12 years. Finally he served as a Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy from 2000-2011.

He was a member of American Legion Post #98, Leatherneck Coffee Club, and Whitley County Historical Society.

Survivors include his loving wife Phyllis Egolf of Columbia City; children Douglas Egolf of Columbia City, Dennis (Tammy) Egolf of Fort Wayne; step-children David (Cathy) Gardner and Diane (Dennis) Sheets, both of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Carolyn Burrey of Columbia City and Pamalyn (Donald) Endsley of Warren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rodger Egolf.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ronald may be made to Whitley County Historical Society, Whitley County Humane Society, or Toys for Tots.

NOTE: In September 2006 Ronald donated a 1954 senior blanket & a small retracting pen to CCHSAA's memorabilia collection. The pen was issued by coaches Leonard Barnum and Max Duffield c1953 & fits inside a key chain container.

Phyllis passed away January 4, 2021.
