Wife Ann passed away July 18, 2014:

Ann Smith, 75, of rural Columbia City, died Friday evening, July 18, 2014 at her home.

She was born November 15, 1938 in South Whitley, Indiana a daughter of Arthur H. and Marguerite B. (McConnell) Bechtold. Her formative years were spent in South Whitley. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1956.

On January 25, 1957 she was united in marriage to Richard D. Smith. They made their home south of Columbia City for 31 years before moving to their home at New Lake. Mr. Smith died July 31, 1993.
She was employed at Essex/Coupled Products for over 35 years. She was a member of Eberhard Lutheran Church.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Timothy A. (Kim) Smith of South Whitley and Larry D. Smith of Columbia City; four grandchildren, Andrea Lortie of South Whitley, Lang Johnson of Larwill, Brittany Shoemaker of South Whitley and Bradley Smith of Wichita KS; six great grandchildren; a sister, Kristine Bechtold of Oregon; a brother, Phil Bechtold; and her companion, Gale Uhrick of Columbia City.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy A. Zoch; a grandson, Ryan Zoch; and a sister, Sandra Sue Bechtold.

The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Eberhard Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Cystic Fibrosis.
