Mitzi Lue Mitchell, 72, a resident of rural Columbia City, died at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at her home. She had been in failing health.

Born on June 20, 1934, in Whitley County, a daughter of William Everett "Pop" and Edith Louise (Flora) Juillerat, her formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township. She attended Thorncreek School and graduated from Columbia City High School in 1952.

On Jan. 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to David S. Mitchell. They made their home in Columbia City, Huntington, Warsaw, Plymouth, Fort Wayne and Wabash. Mr. Mitchell died July 17, 1985. In 1986, she moved to her present home.

A member of Grace Lutheran Church, she was employed at Huntington County Hospital for 10 years and D.T.F. Trucking in Coesse for 10 years.

Survivors include a son, Kent S. Mitchell of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Danette (Matt) Stewart of Yoder and Tamara S. Reeves of Columbia City; five grandchildren; a brother Monte Juillerat of Lebanon and two sisters, Shella Anderson of Columbia City, and Marta Konkle of Warsaw.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Ann Mitchell and a sister, Othelia Juillerat.

The funeral service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 204 N. Main St., Columbia City, with the Rev. Dr. C. James Cress, church pastor, officiating. Burial is at Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington; Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City.
