Sally M. Martin, 86, of Columbia City, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Miller's Oak Pointe, Columbia City where she had been a resident since 2015.

She was born September 23, 1930 in Columbia City a daughter of the late Edward J. and Eloise (Patterson) Meyers. She graduated from Columbia City High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Manchester College. She received her master's in education from the University of St. Francis, Fort Wayne.

On September 28, 1963 she was united in marriage to Gail E. Martin. They have always made their home in Columbia City.

A career long educator, she taught Home Economics with the Huntington County Community Schools.

She was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church, Whitley County Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Theta Tau. In 1987, she co-founded the Whitley County Literacy Council. She was active in United Methodist Church Phoebes and the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

She is survived by her husband, Gail "Speedy"; two daughters, Laura (Tom) Shive, Broken Arrow, OK and Brenda (Tom) Shearer, Columbia City; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Meyers, Columbia City.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Martinez; a granddaughter, Kristina Shive and a sister, Marjorie Nestingen.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Scott - Keister Cemetery near Goose Lake. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Columbia City United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
