Patricia Jean Johnson, 95, of Columbia City, died peacefully in the company of family at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at her home.

Born on August 29, 1928, in Columbia City, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Berlin and Reathel (Rinehart) Foster. Growing up in Columbia City, she completed elementary school at West Ward and graduated from Columbia City High School in 1946.

On May 24, 1952, she married Nathan G. Roberts. They made their home in Columbia City. The couple raised two children. Nathan died on July 26, 1980. On September 29, 1990, she married Galen R. “Johnnie” Johnson. They made their home in Columbia City. Johnnie died on January 26, 2012.

For ten years, Pat managed the Whitley County License Branch in Columbia City. In 1978, she went to work for the Post & Mail, retiring in 1993.

In her senior years, she enjoyed playing cards with friends at the Whitley County Woodlands Senior Center. Through the years, she regularly played BINGO at the Eagles and other locations, collecting her pull tabs. At home, she liked working on word search puzzles and reading. A collector of small handbells, she amassed a considerable collection. In her younger years, she was a member of the local Women’s Bowling League.

Surviving are her children, Nathan “JR” (Sue) Roberts and Darcy S. Hyndman of Columbia City; grandchildren, Nicole B. (Justin) Blaugh of Columbia City, Natalie A. Roberts (Alissa Brewer) of Fishers, Ryan K. (Mandy) Miller of Fort Wayne; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sheila Cook of Columbia City.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brian Hyndman.

The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is beside her first husband at the Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City. Visitation is from noon until the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Pat’s honor are to Whitley County Humane Society or the Grace Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
