Notes:

Vera L. (Brumbaugh) Christman, died Nov. 30, 2016. She was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Churubusco, to Clarence and Fern (Jenks) Brumbaugh, who were both blind and met at Indianapolis School of the Blind.

A highlight of Vera's life was seeing the mural painted on the side of the hardware store building in Churubusco where her father had a popcorn stand. She was grateful to those who painted it.

Though she faced many challenges, Vera graduated from Columbia City High School in 1945.

On Aug. 3, 1945, two days after her 18th birthday, she married her sweetheart, Don Christman, and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together before his passing in 1998.

She is survived by her three children, Donna Fluke and Duane (Cheryl) Christman, both of Pueblo, Colo., and Vicki Valdez, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her grandchildren, Sheila (Anthony) Philips, Yvonne Cordova, Lisa (Chris) Bolt, Jeremy Valdez, Marissa Malloy and Savannah (Frank) Martinez; step-grandchildren, Laurie (Rod) Mishmash and Dean Fluke; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Doris (Christman) Claudon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents, Clarence and Fern Brumbaugh; brother, Wayne; grandson, Rick Valdez; son-in-law, Jerry Fluke; and step-grandson, John Fluke.

Services will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Episcopal Church in Pueblo, Colo., at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, with viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. A reception will follow immediately at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Indiana Blind Children's Foundation, 7725 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, Ind., 46240.
