Donald E. Sullivan, 88, of Columbia City, died at 5:13 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 in the emergency room of Parkview Whitley Hospital.

He was born November 14, 1926 in Lebanon, Indiana a son of M. Floyd and Ruby A. (Sallee) Sullivan. In 1943 his family moved to Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School.

In November 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

On August 1, 1946 he was united in marriage to L. Jeanette Timmons. They have always made their home in Columbia City, moving to their present home in 1976.

Don began working at G.E., L.M.L., Daniel Bros. and W.A. Jones before beginning his 35 year career with Farmer's Loan & Trust, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #98.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Jeanette; three children, Linda (Jim) Bayman of South Whitley, Shirley Gage of Fort Wayne and Trudy (Brad) Deutsch of Columbia City; seven grandchildren, Ryan Graves, Kristen Bayman, Brandon Gage, Brett Gage, Randi Deutsch, Kevin Deutsch and Megan Deutsch; five great grandchildren, Wes, Andrew, Ryleigh and Haleigh Graves and Xander Smith; a sister, Donna (Arthur) Hinen of Columbia City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son and an infant daughter.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The entombment will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Grace Lutheran Church Food Pantry or Humane Society of Whitley County.
