Phyllis L. Bowsman, 90, of Columbia City, died at 10:43 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne where she was admitted the day before. She was born October 6, 1926 in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County a daughter of Jesse and Laura Isabell (Pheister) Braddock.

In 1943 her family moved into Columbia City. She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1944.

On May 29, 1948 she was united in marriage to Ernest Marion Bowsman. They always made their home in Columbia City, wintering in Florida and Arizona for 14 years. Mr. Bowsman died November 25, 2007.

She worked for United Telephone for over seven years, Columbia City Builder's Supply for 26 years and North American Van Lines for over four years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and later attended New Life Bible Church.

Surviving relatives include a son, Robert Bowsman; a daughter, Donna (David) Hearld, all of Columbia City; two grandchildren, Jaime (Jeremy) Palmer and Joshua (Crystal) Hearld; three great grandchildren, Ethan, Evan and Emma Palmer; four sisters, Betty Dear, Dean Bowman and Sharon Rucker, all of Columbia City and Judy Fisher of Millersburg; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Western of Columbia City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bonnie Egner and Frances Western. Evelyn Egner.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Salvation Army or Whitley County Energy Assistance Fund.
