Paul Dwight Jones, 91, of Columbia City, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Peabody Home, North Manchester where he had been a resident since June 17th.

He was born March 29, 1923 in South Whitley, Indiana a son of Kenneth Paul and Bertha E. (Nei) Jones. His formative years were spent in Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School.

On March 8, 1943 he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II including the USS LST 213, earning three battle stars. He was honorably discharged January 24, 1946.

Following his discharge, he joined his father in the operation of Jones Bakery until its closing in 1969. He retired from L.S. Ayres in 1989 with 16 years of service.

On November 2, 1946 he was united in marriage to L. June Schrader. They always made their home in Columbia City. Mrs. Jones died November 24, 1997.

His memberships included American Legion Post #98, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1417 and formerly Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving relatives include two children, Debby (Kent) Koch of Waukesha WI and Jeffrey (Donna) Jones of Columbia City; four grandchildren, Christopher (Katie) Jones, Marley Jones, Nathan Koch and Molly (Mike) Koch Lenzendorf; and two great grandchildren, Katie and Olivia Jones.

A private family service followed by burial will be held at Greenhill Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Whitley County Council on Aging, Parkview Oaks Activity Department or Heartland Hospice.

Arrangements are by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
