Gwendolyn Mae Barsh, 89, a native of Columbia City, died Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida.

She was born September 22, 1922 in Columbia City, Indiana a daughter of Eldon B. and Delta Maud (Egner) Barsh. She graduated from Columbia City High School, received her nursing degree from Wesley Hospital/Northwestern University and completed certification in bookkeeping.

She married Philip Warren Barsh. They made their home in Elmhurst, Illinois. Mr. Barsh died January 18, 1983. Gwendolyn moved to Venice, Florida two years ago from South Whitley.

A registered nurse, she also served in the Nurses Cadet Corps during World War II.

Surviving relatives include two children, Thomas (Marty) Barsh of Sarasota FL and Barbara (Henry) Soch of Trumbull CT.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, Robert Barsh and Mary Yeager.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Lutheran Missions, American Cancer Society or donor's favorite charity.
