JONESBORO, ILLINOIS — Betty E. Dodd, 95 years, died at 5:15 a.m. Aug. 25, 2017. She was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Huntington, Indiana, to Albert and Ethelwyn (Beal) Heinss. Both parents are deceased. She was an only child.

She married Byron E. Dodd on Feb. 17, 1946. in Indianapolis, Indiana. They later moved to Jonesboro. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1988.

Betty is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Byron A. and Rita Dodd of Anna; two daughters and spouses, Carolyn and Ron Cross of Jonesboro, and Patricia and David Weaver of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Wendi Weaver of Bloomington, Braxton (Katie) Weaver of Des Peres, Missouri, Laura Cross of St. Louis, Megan Sherrill of Jonesboro, Bradley (Danielle) Dodd of Anna, and Ryan Dodd of Anna; great-grandchildren include, Callaway Dancause of Bloomington, Lily Baker and Adelle Sherrill of Jonesboro, Camden and Brody Weaver of Des Peres, Missouri, and Briana Dodd of Anna.

Betty retired in 1984 after 19 years with the USDA Forest Service, Jonesboro Ranger District as business management assistant. Previously she held secretarial positions with Allison Division., GMC and Pittman-Moore Biological Laboratories in Indianapolis, Indiana and bookkeeping positions for private industry in Southern Illinois.

Betty also was a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and a member of Anna Women’s Club.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she served many years in the church media library and later as library director.

Betty was both a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to play both Piano and Monopoly with her family. She always had a welcoming smile and generous heart which she openly shared with family, friends, and strangers. As the "grandkids" would say, "We'll miss you Gram!"

Services will be at noon Monday, Aug. 28, in Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Jerry Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jonesboro Building Fund or the church library. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
