Carl Eugene Kessler, 86
June 24, 1919 - Nov. 16, 2005

Carl Eugene Kessler, 86, of Mineral Wells, Texas, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005.

Born on June 24, 1919, in Columbia City, a son of Vern and Lillian (Raoul) Kessler, he attended Purdue University majoring in engineering.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1940 during his fourth year at Purdue and went on to become an instructor pilot in the Air Force. He later met and married his wife Sybil and was discharged as a major in 1946.

The couple moved to Stephenville where he formed a partnership with Hugh Wolfe and they patented aluminum farm and ranch gates that are now used worldwide.

The Kesslers later moved to Mineral Wells where he expanded into the manufacture of towers and antennas, some of which were used in the initial space program. He participated in designing and constructing many local buildings in Mineral Wells including The First Christian Church, the local country club and airport. He contributed funds, property and his time to the betterment of his community.

He was a supporter of The Senior Center, Lions Club, Head Start and Day Care Program, as well as many others. He was an active member of the Lions Club, which he held dear for more than 50 years.

Carl was a brilliant man who lived a life driven by challenge and creativity. He was an adventurer and a "professional" problem solver. He was a man with a gentle spirit who loved his children, his family and friends. He cared deeply for his community and his current and past employees. Professionally, he was deeply respected and befriended by many. Carl never lost his sense of humor, his spirit or his will to live.

One of eight children, he is survived by a sister Margaret Phillips of Fort Wayne; three children, Ken, David and Carla; four grandchildren; and his foster grandson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family service. A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the First Christian Church, 302 Northwest 6th Street in Mineral Wells.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to the donor's choice of charity or organization.

Arrangements were completed by Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 398, Mineral Wells, TX.
