DALE E. FISHER, 86, a lifelong resident of Columbia City, died at 10:10 p.m., Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Miller's Merry Manor where he had been a resident for the past week.

He was born September 2, 1919 in Columbia City, Indiana a son of Lewis and Ella (King) Fisher. He graduated from Columbia City High School. Class of 1937

On May 9, 1942 he was united in marriage to Hazel J. Chapman. Always residing in Columbia City, they moved to their present home in 1949. Mrs. Fisher died March 8, 2004.

On November 7, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged December 15, 1945.

He was employed at Columbia Woolen Mills for a short time before and after serving in the Army. He then began his carpentry trade, which he continued for many years.

Surviving relatives include four daughters, Rose Ann (Charles) Barnum of Kendallville, Connie (James) Bedwell of Columbia City, Jean (Max) Lefever of Columbia City and Sally (Gary) Maggart of South Whitley; two sons, Thomas Fisher of Columbia City and William Fisher of Pierceton; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Fisher and two grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Dennis Beckner, pastor of Columbia City Church of the Brethren, officiating. The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery with Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard presenting military honors.
