JEANETTE B. SAUERS, 88, a lifelong resident of Whitley County, died at 12:35 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Miller's Merry Manor where she had been a resident since January 17, 2001.

She was born November 29, 1918 in Gary, Indiana a daughter of Guilford and Ruth (Brown) Gardner. She was raised by an aunt and uncle in Columbia City. She graduated from Columbia City High School. Class of 1936.

On September 3, 1940 she was united in marriage to Dan Morres Sauers. They made their home on a farm in Etna Troy Township until Dan was elected Sheriff of Whitley County. During her husband's two terms of office, they resided in the Sheriff's residence of the jail and she served as Whitley County Jail Matron. In 1968 they moved to Goose Lake. She served as Whitley County Treasurer's assistant for six years while her husband served as Whitley County Treasurer. Mr. Sauers died April 28, 1994. In 1995 Jeanette moved into Columbia City.

Her church affiliation was with Columbia City United Methodist Church.

Surviving relatives include two sons, David M. (Sharon) Sauers and Dennis M. Sauers, all of Columbia City; four grandchildren, Doug Sauers, Greg Sauers, Deb Casaburo and Christopher Sauers; and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther McDowell, Millicent Craig and Rosemary Morgan.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2006 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Curtiss Johnson officiating. The burial will be in West Etna Community Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
