Per Whitley County Historical Society's March 2023 The Bulletin: Enlisted in the US Army April 9, 1941. 1st Sgt, Engineers Corps, Company B, 37th regiment. Participated in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 at Omaha Beach. Spent months in Normandy unloading troops & materials along with clearing the beach & roads and repairing port facilities. Supported the Allied advance through Belgium and into Germany in March 1945. Received European-African-Middle East Ribbon with 4 bronze stars, American Defense Service medal with bronze star, Good Conduct Ribbon and Distinguished Unit Citation.

Fay Leroy Goodrich, 75, of Lake Tippecanoe, died at 5 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, 1993, at St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla. near his winter home. Mr. Goodrich was born on Oct. 28, 1917, in Whitley County.

On Sept. 5, 1942, he was united in marriage to Idabel M. Lovett in Gulf Port, Miss. She survives.

He was former owner of Lovett Tool & Manufacturing Co. of Mishawaka in 1984. Then he retired from Reliable Metal of Mishawaka in 1989 after four years of service.

Mr. Goodrich lived in Mishawaka for 47 years and two years in Tippecanoe. He was a member of FOE Lodge No. 2083 of Mishawaka, South Bend Moose Lodge No. 4025, Elks Lodge of Englewood, Fla. And East United Methodist Church in Mishawaka.

He is survived by his wife, Idabel; two daughters, Marilyn J. Shroyer and Judith Ann Zorn both of Mishawaka; three grandchildren; one sister, Zovelda Andris of Gibson City, Ill.; three brothers, Kenneth Goodrich of Grants Pass, Oregon, Gerald Goodrich of Drummond Isle, Mich. and Clyde Goodrich of South Bend.

Memorial services are 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 1993, at Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, with the Rev. Al Kundenreich officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Chapel, Osceola. Visitation is one hour prior to services on Monday.

Memorials are to the American Red Cross or Salvation Army.
