A retiree of C.F. Gomma, he was employed at Dana Weatherhead for 29 years before his retirement in 1998. He had been employed for the past four years with Stone Hard Corp.

On March 23, 1985 he was united in marriage to Jacqueline J. "Jackie" Creech. They have always made their home in Columbia City.

He did living history re-enactment with Stone's Trace and Johnny Appleseed Festival.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Jackie; five children, Amy (Mark) Taylor and David (Angie) Herbst, all of Fort Wayne, Robert (Karli) Hendry of Columbia City, Nicole (Bob) Fravel of Decatur and Jason Hare of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; his mother, Rosie Wolfe of Columbia City; three brothers, Terry Herbst of Fort Wayne, Lance Herbst and Phil Wolfe, both of Columbia City; and a sister, Rosita Kaminski of Columbia City.

His father preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
