of Rome City died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 4:30 a.m. in his residence.

He had lived in Rome City for 13 years, coming from Alaska where he lived for 11 years. Prior to that, he resided in Columbia City. He was a graduate of Columbia City High School.

Mr. Gipson retired in 1989 after 30 years with Navistar in Fort Wayne. He worked as an engineer in the sheet metal department.

He was a member of Elks Lodge #1417 in Columbia City.

Butch enjoyed building and put his ability to use by building two log homes while living in Alaska. He liked to hunt, fish, spend time with his friends, and dearly loved his family.

He was born September 2, 1940, in Nokomis, Illinois, to Carl R. and Gladys (Kettlekamp) Gipson.

On November 6, 1959, in Fort Wayne he married Jacqueline A. "Jackie" Kammer. She survives in Rome City.

Also surviving are two sons, Curtis (Janie) Gipson of North Pole, Alaska, and Bradley Gipson of Avilla; three grandchildren, Anna (Chris) Meek of South Bend, Nicholas (Melanie) Gipson of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Christopher Gipson of Fairbanks, Alaska; and two great-grandchildren, Kiana Gipson and Miles Meek.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rolland Gipson.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 1 - 4 p.m. in the American Legion, Post 381, 611 Kelly Street, Rome City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Parkview Noble Hospice.

Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
