Shirley Ann Jagger, 83, a lifetime resident of Columbia City, passed away gently with her loving family at her side at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Sycamore Village, Allen County. Shirley was born Aug. 24, 1931 in Greer, S.C. She was the daughter of Roy E. and Edna L. (Lewis) Duncan of Greenville County, S.C. where Roy served as the Manager of Blue Bell.

Shirley was a graduate of Columbia City High School. She married Guy Jagger on June 24, 1949. After having her family, Shirley returned to school where she earned her bachelor's degree from University of St. Francis, Fort Wayne; she went on to earn her master's degree in education.

She began her career with the Columbia City Chamber of Commerce. She then served as the school secretary to the principal of Columbia City Joint High School.

She began her teaching career at Central Noble Middle School, Washington Center, Huntington North High School and for many years, taught English, Spanish and was a guidance counselor at Wabash High School. She often organized and directed school trips to Mexico with her Spanish Club.

Even though she was a devoted career woman, her heart and soul were always at and part of the Jagger family farm. Shirley took great pride in her family and all of their accomplishments.

She was a former member of Blue River Church of the Brethren and was a member of First Church of God. Other memberships include, Philomathean, Coterie, Indiana State Teacher's Association and Delta Theta Tau.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Guy Jagger, Columbia City; children, Jim (Jayne) Jagger, South Whitley, Kathy (Tim) Cook and Cheryl (Bob) Schuman, both of Columbia City; a sister, Susie (Don) Sexton, Columbia City; brother in law, Charles "Mac" McBride, Youngstown, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Chad (Kristin) Fry, Travis (Regan) Fry, Rob (Sarah) Schuman, Sonja (Mason) Bordner, Shelbie (Brandon) Holler,
Jason (Amy) Jagger and Jarred (Daidra) Jagger; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sarah McBride.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the funeral home. Pastor Brandon Holler, First Church of God, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Blue River Cemetery, Thorncreek Township.
