Larry L. Allen, 72
April, 23, 1933 - Feb. 6, 2006

Larry L. Allen, 72, of Columbia City, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at his home.

Born in Larwill on April 23, 1933, he was a son of Robert and Mildred (Tschantz) Allen. He attended the Larwill and Columbia City schools and lived in Whitley County his entire lifetime, except for the time he served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force for more than 20 years, serving as a radar tech, underwater welder and diesel mechanic.

He married Marcia I. Slagal on Dec. 15, 1952, at Grace Lutheran Church in Columbia City.

After his military career, he was maintenance director for Southtown Mall in Fort Wayne and also worked as an advisor of several other Indiana malls. He most recent employment was as an over-the-road truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia; two sons, Kenneth L. (Jody) Allen of Columbia City, and Randy J. (Patty) Allen of Huntington; a daughter, Zina (Bryan) Corkwell of Columbia City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three sisters, Janet (Joe) Shoemaker of South Whitley; Sherrill (Frank) Boggs of Columbia City, and Cozetta Allen, address unknown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Dorinda Allen.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City. The funeral service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor John Cummings, of Community Bible Church, officiating Burial is at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial bequests may be given in memory of Mr. Allen to Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice.
