Starr Faith Johanns, age 70, died at 1:52 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2007 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. She was born in Ari, Swan Township, Noble County, IN on March 13, 1937 to Omar O. and Annabelle (Longsworth) Rosenogle.

She was born and raised in Noble County and as a young woman moved to Thorncreek Township in Whitley County, IN. Since 1992 she has lived in Noble County. Later in life she returned to Columbia City High School and graduated with the Class of 1973. On June 28, 1985 she received her nursing degree from Purdue University in Fort Wayne, IN. She married Virgil Mathias Johanns in Columbia City, IN on April 10, 1982 by Mayor Robert Walker.

She was a registered nurse and has worked in local nursing homes and hospitals in Ligonier, Kendallville, and Columbia City, IN. She was the former Director of Nursing at Columbia City Nursing Home and Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla, IN, retiring in 1996. She was a former member of Columbia City Moose Lodge. She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Albion, IN, where she also is a part of the Martha Circle. She was a quilter and quilt designer who won several awards for her quilts. She also loved gardening and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil M. Johanns of Kimmell, IN; 7 children, Patrick (Mary) Schaper of Albion, IN, Tina Elliott of Churubusco, IN, Lisa (Phil) Richmond of Columbia City, IN, Joni (Dave) Smith of Columbia City, IN, Shari (Brian) Shively of Columbia City, IN, Timothy (Angela) Schaper of Kendallville, IN, Robert (Stacey) Schaper of Kimmell, IN; 1 step daughter, Terressa Clark of Fort Wayne, IN and step son, James Johanns of Dallas, TX; 21 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren;1 sister, Linda (Vern Lee) Wilson of Albion, IN. She is preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Michael Rosenogle and 1 grandson, Brad Schaper.

Visitation is Thursday, August 23, 2007 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Visitation will also be held on Friday, August 24, 2007 after 10:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 706 North Orange Street, Albion, IN with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Barker officiating. Burial will be at Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, Noble County, IN.

Memorial bequests may be given in memory of Mrs. Johanns to the American Cancer Society or Trinity United Methodist Church's Martha Circle. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Have always lived around Columbia City. Graduated from Purdue's school of nursing. I enjoyed every minute of my nursing career but retirment was good also. We travel south in the winters. Have many hobbies such as quilting, reading, fishing, gardening . We have thirty two grand and great grandchildren including a set of triplet boys. Have had a beautiful life.
