Notes:

Robert Dean "Bob" Schuman, 65, of Columbia City, Indiana, mercifully entered into the presence of his Savior on Thursday evening, January 25, 2024 at Stillwater Hospice with family by his side. Born April 25, 1958 in Columbia City, he was the son of LaMar and Clara (Gradeless) Schuman.

A lifelong resident of Whitley County, Bob was involved with the Whitley County 4-H, the FFA, played football and basketball, and was in the ICE program with REMC while attending Columbia City Joint High School. He graduated with the Class of 1977.

It was at the 4-H fair where he met and fell deeply in love with Cheryl Jagger. On February 19, 1977, the two were married, and together would welcome three wonderful children.

Bob was a very hardworking man and did whatever it took to provide for his family and had a career transition from factory work to truck driving. Farming was a passion for Bob and he had worked at Weatherhead, North American Van Lines, Dana in Syracuse, Precision Plastics, United/National Oil and part time delivering for Parrish Oil.

Faith, family, and friends meant the most to Bob. A devout Christian, Bob was a member of The Chapel in Fort Wayne and Columbia City First Church of God. Raised in the church, he developed a personal relationship with Jesus and accepted him into his heart in 1979. Even in his last days, his deepest desire was for everyone to know and accept Jesus as he did.

Bob was a social person who never knew a stranger. At church he was great at being on the “Greeting Committee” to welcome you to church. He had a servant’s heart and would do anything to help others, often helping others before helping himself. Bob was athletic and competitive, he enjoyed long Sunday drives out in the country, eating, music, and Bob became quite the dancer, “if he wanted to date Cheryl Jagger”.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Cheryl Schuman; son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Sarah Schuman; daughter and son-in-law, Sonja and Mason Bordner, daughter and son-in-law, Shelbie and Brandon Holler, 12 grandchildren, Alia, Karaline, Ethan, Sadie and Whitley Schuman; Grant, Blake, Kenton and Aubrey Bordner; and Torah, Sola and Hope Holler; sisters, Candy Vardaman, Renee Duggins and Lynn Dunlap. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Guy and Shirley Jagger.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 pm Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at The Chapel, 2505 W Hamilton Rd, Fort Wayne. Funeral services are 11:30 am Thursday at The Chapel. Friends and guests to start being seated at 11 am. His son-in-law, Pastor Brandon Holler will be officiating. Burial will take place at Blue River Cemetery in rural Columbia City.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations may be given in Bob’s memory to The Chapel, Columbia City First Church of God, or the Whitley County 4-H.

Arrangements with DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
