Richard “Rick” A. Jones, 49, of Columbia City, died at 9:57 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne after being injured in a motorcycle accident Friday evening.

Born on November 25, 1952 in Columbia City, a son of Larry and Lillian (McClure) Jones, he graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1971.

On March 31, 1978 he was united in marriage to Lyndah Hawn and the couple always resided in Whitley County.

Serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, he worked in shipping for the past 19 years at Dana Coupled Products, Columbia City.

A member of Oak Grove Church of God, Columbia City and A.B.A.T.E., he was a firefighter for the Columbia Township Fire Department for 23 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lyndah; three sons, Timothy Jones, Kristopher Jones and Matthew Jones; his father and step-mother, Larry and Pat Jones, all of Columbia City; three brothers, Ron (Julie) Jones, and Steven (Mona) Jones, both of Columbia City and Brian (Gwendolyn) Jones of Pierceton; a sister Deborah (Shawn) Jones of Portland, Ore.; a step-brother, Brian Rarick of Fort Wayne; a step-sister, Michelle Cross of Huntington; his grandmother, Helen McClure of Columbia City and three grandchildren, Alleyshia Jones, Keith Boggs and Carry Beth Jones Boggs.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Shoda-Wilkinson Funeral Home, 116 S. Line St., Columbia City with the Rev. Mark Goegleitt of Oak Grove Church of God officiating. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a memorial service by Columbia Township Fire Department at 7:30 p.m. Burial is at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to A.B.A.T.E. or Columbia Township Fire Department.
