Ronald Dale Carpenter, age 57, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Miller's Merry Manor, Inc. Columbia City. Born on December 26, 1952 in Columbia City, he was the son of Richard E. Carpenter and Juanita J. (Henline) Carpenter.

A lifetime resident of Columbia City, he graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1971.

Ron's mother, Juanita Jean (Henline) Carpenter was certified in 1979 as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), making Ron a direct descendant of Captain Joel Loomis who served in the American Revolution. Captain Loomis' discharge papers included the personal thank you of General George Washington.

On September 12, 2009, he married Gwendolene Bethie Johnson.

He was an active member of the Columbia City Elks Lodge #1417 where he served as secretary from 1990-1997. He received the Elk of the Year Award in 1993-1994.

Survivors include his wife, Gwendolene I. Bethie Carpenter of Columbia City, IN; father, Richard E. Carpenter of Columbia City, IN; 2 brothers, Ricky Alan (Nanci) Carpenter of Oviedo, FL and Rex L. Carpenter of Columbia City, IN; 1 sister, Karla May Jordan of Westminster, CO; and 5 nieces and 5 nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Jean Carpenter on April 7, 2002.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor James Clifford of Laud Christian Church officiating, burial to follow at Nolt Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Carpenter to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Please visit www.demoneygrimes.com to send family condolences or sign the guest register book.
