Robert D. Studebaker, 58, of Columbia City, died at 4:41 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where he was admitted on Wednesday, October 6th.

He was born February 3, 1952 in Whitley County, Indiana a son of Homer Junior and Maxine (Kite) Studebaker. His formative years were spent in Union Township. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School.

In addition to farming, he owned and operated S & H Contracting for 17 years, worked for Geiger Development in Huntington and also Wayne Asphalt in Fort Wayne for over 19 years.

In 1970 he moved to Thorncreek Township until 1972 when he moved to Columbia City, residing north of Columbia City since 1981.

On March 30, 1986 he was united in marriage to Janice L. (Ulrich) Licata.

His memberships included Eagles Lodge #1906 and Columbia City Fire Department for over 10 years.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Janice; six children, Wanda Studebaker of West Chester Ohio, D. Brian (Caryn Beth) Studebaker of Columbia City, Justin R. (Loretta) Studebaker of South Whitley, Steven H. (Jenni) Licata of South Whitley, Anthony J. Licata of Columbia City and Michael D. (Cassandra) Licata of South Whitley; 14 grandchildren; a brother and two sisters, Richard (Kathy) Studebaker, Dianne (Larry) Shrock and Judy (Dan) Coyle, all of Columbia City; his step mother and step sisters, Jane Studebaker and LeaAnn Dunlap, both of Columbia City.

His parents preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Troy Presbyterian Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials may be made to Whitley County 4-H Inc.
