GARRY L. HARRIS, 58, a former Columbia City resident, was found dead Friday morning at his home in Warrior, Alabama. He had been suffering from a heart condition for several years.

He was born on April 21, 1949 in Fort Wayne, a son of William O. and Wilma Jean Roose Harris. His formative years were spent in Columbia City where he graduated from the Columbia City Joint High School in 1967.

After completing his education, he was employed at the Williams Food Market, later the Gulf Service Station. He worked as a machinist at the Harris Manufacturing Company in Fort Wayne for a number of years, later at Wal-Mart and Hires Auto Parts. He was last employed as an escort for mobile homes.

His first marriage was to Rita Sheldon and they spent their married life in Columbia City. In 1975, he was married to Joyce Acres and with the exception of a brief period in Florida, they spent their married life in the Columbia City area. Mr. Harris has resided in Alabama for the past four years.

He was a member of the Columbia City Eagles Lodge #1906.

The surviving relatives include four daughters, Rita Ann (Mitch) Lehman, Lafayette, Sheri Lynne (Chris) Conaster, Jamestown, TN, Angela Pepple, Pierceton, Tina (Todd) Kyler, Columbia City; two sons, Tad (Angela) Harris and Garry A. (Heather) Harris both of Columbia City; a sister, Lana (Jess) McCoy, Columbia City; two brothers, Brent (Cindy) Harris, Wolf Lake and Brad (Donna) Harris of Warsaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Larry and a grand daughter, Kelsey Jo Kyler.

A memorial service will be held at 8 pm Thursday in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastor Bob Eatherton, officiating. Private burial will take place later. The visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
