Notes:	Max L. "Mick" Bowers Jr., 65 of Churubusco, died suddenly Tuesday evening, September 16, 2014 at his home of natural causes. He was born April 7, 1949 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of Max Lavon and Gwendolyn G. (Grabach) Bowers Sr. His formative years were spent in Laud. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School and continued his education at Ivy Tech. On September 17, 1983 he was united in marriage to Lisa A. (Diffendarfer) Herbst. On December 1, 1985 they moved to their present home. He retired from Zollner Piston with 37 years of service and has worked at Symmetry Medical in Avilla for the past eight years. An Army Reservist, he was a member of American Legion Post #253 in North Webster and V.F.W. in Churubusco. Surviving relatives include his wife, Lisa; four children, Scott (Shannon) Bowers, Brian (Roberta) Bowers, Amy (Mark) Taylor and David (Angela) Herbst, all of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Marsha (Milt) Grabner of Columbia City; and his father-in-law, David Diffendarfer of Columbia City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half brother, Leston King. The casual funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco. Preferred memorials are to ALS.
