Robert S. Hicks, age 58, of Columbia City, IN died at 8:05 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, IN where he was admitted this past Wednesday. He had been in failing health for the past few months. He was born in Columbus, Muscogee County, GA on March 3, 1948 to Robert W. and Betty I. (Henney) Hicks.

Bob was a Whitley County resident except for 22 years in Colorado and 5 years in California returning to Columbia City in 2004. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1966, Orange Coast College and Trade School and attended several trade classes over the years. He served with the United States Army, serving 2 terms in Viet Nam.

He married Vivian D. LaGarde on February 14, 1977 in Hollywood, CA. He worked as an over the road truck driver for several years and most recently was employed at Parker-Hannifin, Syracuse, IN. He was a member of Eagle Lodge #1906, Columbia City and attended Centerview Community Church, rural South Whitley.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian D. Hicks, Columbia City, IN; 2 daughters, Melissa A. (Thomas) Beecher, Fort Collins, CO; Kirsty R. (Dwayne) Baldwin, Greeley, CO; 3 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Elizabeth I. Best, Tacoma, WA; Portia A. (Kenneth) Clem, Columbia City, IN; Lydia D. (Tom) Osborn, Indianapolis, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 from 3-5 p.m.at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN.

Memorial bequests may be given in Mr. Hick's memory to the American Red Cross or Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
