Roger T. Pittenger, 41, R4, Hatchery Road, Tri-Lakes, was killed at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 36 and the Fairview-Snodgrass Road in Miami County near Piqua, Ohio.

Mr. Pittenger was born Feb. 16, 1947, at the Luckey Hospital, Wolf Lake, a son of Talbert W. and Georgiana Evelyn (Miller) Pittenger. He was educated at Columbia Township School and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1965.

After completing his education, Mr. Pittenger became employed at International Harvestor Co. in Fort Wayne.

During the Viêt Nam War he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his discharge from military service, he returned to International Harvestor and later transferred to the Navistar plant in Springfield, Ohio when the Fort Wayne plant closed.

On July 19, 1981, he was united in marriage to Dianne Cummings and they have always made their home at Tri-Lakes.

Mr. Pittenger was a member of Columbia City American Legion Post 98 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5582.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Dianne, a son, Rodney Pittenger, of Fort Wayne; his parents, Talbert and Virginia Pittenger, of Columbia City and Ellenton, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Rita) Lanteigne, of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Fred (Sharon) Cearbaugh, of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgiana, in January, 1950.

The funeral service for Mr. Pittenger will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City with the Rev. Jeffrey Ames, pastor of the B.T. Roberts Free Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Internment will be in the Oak Grove Compton Cemetery with American Legion Post 98 presenting military honors at graveside.
