Notes:	David A. Heritier, 66, a Columbia City attorney, died at 6:22 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where he was admitted on September 23rd following a brief illness. He was born February 24, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana a son of Claude Jules and Laura Ann (Bridges) Heritier M.D. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School Class of 1963, received his B.A. in Sociology and Masters in American Studies from Purdue University and completed his education at the School of Law at Valparaiso University. On November 16, 1969 he was united in marriage to Joanne L. Motz. They made their home in West Lafayette, Fort Wayne, Alpena Michigan and Valparaiso before settling in Columbia City in 1978. He served in the United States Army as a Military Police in Presidio, California and special ops in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. From 1980 to 1984 he served as Whitley County Court judge, beginning his law practice in 1984, David A. Heritier Attorney at Law. His memberships included Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1417, American Legion Post #98 where he was a former commander, Indiana Bar Association, American Bar Association and was Grand Marshall of the Old Settlers Day Parade in 2006. He was a former active member of Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Surviving relatives include his wife, Joanne; three children, Claudia A. (Bob) Braman of Greenwood, Christian J. (Cathy) Heritier of Columbia City and David A.B. Heritier of Atlanta GA; five grandchildren, Ian and Meredith Braman, Julian and Marley Heritier and Anya Heritier; and four siblings, Jules Reed Heritier of Espanola NM, Laura Ann Heritier of Fort Myers FL, Jill Chapman of Columbia City and Jackson Peabody of Vero Beach FL. The visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. There will be no public funeral service. Preferred memorials to Whitley County Community Foundation.
