Billy Dean Pontzius, age 71, of Ligonier, died on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mr. Pontzius was born in Fort Wayne on July 28, 1943 to the late Walter Emmett Pontzius and Eleanor Katherine (Harter) Pontzius.

He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1961 and entered the United States Army. He served his country for six years in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Patricia Lou Young on September 24, 1965. Billy was employed with Group Dekko in North Webster. He also worked at Noble Wire in Merriam and Essex in Columbia City.

He loved fishing, watching Westerns, building model cars, and growing roses. He also enjoyed crocheting, and making lamps from popsicle sticks.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Lou Pontzius of Ligonier; Daughter, Mary L. Wells of Rome City; Five grandchildren, Jessica Pontzius of Rome City, Jennifer Wells of Fort Wayne, Kendra Acker of Kendallville, Jacqueline Wells of Huntertown, and Timothy Wells, Jr. of Angola; eight great grandchildren; sister, Connie and Bill Foster of Columbia City; sister, Sandy Parker of Tennessee; and sister, Vicki and Butch Cohen of Memphis, Tennessee.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Dee Lynne Meadows, who died in November 2000 and two brothers, Dick Pontzius and Mike Pontzius.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 3-5:00pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Military honors will be conducted at 5:00pm by honor guard members of the V.F.W. Post 2749, American Legion Post 86 and Post 381, and active duty United States Army troops. There will be no funeral service.

Memorial donations may be made to family.
