Rex Lamoine Slagal, 61, of Columbia City, died at 8:51 a.m. on Friday January 2, 2004 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Born on December 15, 1942, he was a son of Kenneth Merrill and Helen Loucille (Clark)Slagal.

Mr. Slagal graduated with the class of 1960 from Columbia City High School. He was employed by Precision Plastics, Columbia City, for more than 30 years and he also worked for Zanxx, Garrett.

HGe married Laura Kathryn Nickolson on August 9, 1974, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, rural Columbia City. A lifetime Whitley County resident, he was a member of the Eagles Lodge #1906, Moose and V.F.W., all of Columbia City.

Survivors include his wife, Laura K. of Columbia City; sons: Ronald Lee (Connie) Slagal of Churubusco, Bradley Lamoine (Stephanie) Slagal stationed in Okinawa, Japan in the U.S. Air Force and Brian Ashley (Jennifer) Slagal of Columbia City; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Brunner of Columbia City; nine grandchildren; and a sister Marcia (Larry) Allen of Columbia City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Maggart, in 1993.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with an Eagles Lodge Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Funeral services are at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Merriam Christian Chapel, Merriam, Noble County. Memorials may be given in Mr. Slagal's memory to the Columbia City United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
