Douglas E. Mundt, 61, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at his home in Dunedin, Fla. Born in Madison on ApriI7, 1942, a son of Elmer and Nelda Lee (Lloyd) Mundt he graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1960. He then graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science with a diploma in Embalming Arts & Funeral Directing. He worked at Farley Funeral Home in Indianapolis while going to mortuary school and after graduation he was employed at J. A. DeMoney Funeral Home in Columbia City. He then graduated from I.U.P.U.I. in Indianapolis with a bachelors degree in business administration.

He moved to Bentonville in 1973 and was very active in the community. He was an organizer of the "Hamlet Days" observed there, was a former member of the Bentonville Volunteer Fire department and had been a special deputy with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. He had worked at the Ford plant in Connersville from 1968 to 1973 and was the minister at Bentonville Christian Church. He moved from this area to Ohio where he worked as a nursing home administrator who would reorganize business and quality care operations at nursing homes in Indiana and Ohio that had fallen below specific standards. He had just recently made his home in Florida.

He was a member of Bentonville Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Ryan (Beth Ann) Mundt of Bentonville; two granddaughters; and a sister, Myrna Shehee of Grand Rapids, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nancy Killian and Barb Mundt-Hedrick.

Following cremation, a memorial service is at l p.m. Saturday, Sept, 13, at the Bentonville Christian Church with the Rev. John Heflin officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is at Bentonville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin assisted the family with arrangements.
