ROGER DOYLE TREECE, 68, a resident of Churubusco, died at 11:15 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2007 at The Oaks Living Center, Columbia City where he had been a resident since July 2006.

He was born July 13, 1938 in Columbia City a son of Claude and Mary Alice (Reed) Treece. His formative years were spent in Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1957.

On February 18, 1958 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged February 17, 1964.

On December 30, 1962 he was united in marriage to Betty H. Reimer. They made their home in Tunker for a year, Thorncreek Township for over 20 years, Columbia City for three years and Smith Township for five years. In December 1994 they moved to Boynton Beach, Florida until June 2000 when they moved to their home in Churubusco.

He was employed at Auer Oil Company for several years, was a truck driver for Columbia Freight Lines and later Bohrn Trucking, worked for Magnavox 12 years and was a security guard in a residential subdivision in Florida.

His memberships include Faith Lutheran Church in Churubusco, Eagles #1906, V.F.W. #5582 and Leatherneck Coffee Club.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty; a daughter, Kathy (David) Steiss of Columbia City; two grandsons, Andrew DeWitt and Mitchell DeWitt; three step grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony (Helen) Treece and Charles (Barbara) Treece, both of Columbia City; and two sisters, Beverly (Paul) Chappel of Columbia City and Margaret (Elmer) Schrock of Ransom, Kansas.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Lane Burgland, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The burial will be in Eberhard Cemetery with military honors presented.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, Leatherneck Coffee Club or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.

Betty passed away March 10, 2021.
