Carol Ann Hoffman, 77, of rural Columbia City, died at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City after an extended stay. She was born January 10, 1938 in Allen County, Indiana the daughter of Eugene and Gertrude (Fuhrman) Radke.

The Radke family moved several times, even settling in Arkansas for a time before returning to the Columbia City area. Carol graduated from Columbia City High School in 1956.

On June 23, 1956 she was united in marriage to Richard L. Hoffman at the Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Graham Kleespie officiating.

Carol was employed at Blue Bell until becoming a stay at home mother. In 1975 she became the first part time secretary for Grace Lutheran Church and then spent 20 years as a typesetter for Columbia City Post & Mail before retiring in 2008.

A lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, she was also a member of the Deborah Group. She established the Smith Township Worker Bees and served as their 4-H leader and was also a member of the Tawasi Extension Homemakers Club. Carol and Richard enjoyed 20 years of Western Square Dancing with Whitley County and Warsaw Circling Squares.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters, Rebecca (Tony) Mangas of Mansfield OH and Colleen Hoffman of Columbia City; a daughter-in-law, Karen Hoffman of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Joseph (Laura) Mangas, Timothy (Sara Kent) Mangas, Jordan (Amber) Hoffman, Michaela Hoffman, Chelsea (Jason) Kuse and Joshua Franklin; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Connie Guenther of San Angelo TX.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dean Hoffman; a grandson, Tristan Bender; a great grandson; and a brother, Gene Radke.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 204 North Main Street, Columbia City with visitation after 9:30 a.m. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. The visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

Preferred memorials are to Grace Lutheran Church.

10-07-05have lived in the same home since June 23, 1956 marriage. I worked part time at Grace Lutheran Church from 1978 to 1988 and since that time i have been working at The Post & Mail newspaper (17-1/2 years so far)
