Husband's 2011 obituary:

Thomas J. Gilmartin peacefully passed away while in the loving arms of his wife, Barbara Gilmartin, on Sunday, November 13, 2011 after a brief stay in the Orange Regional Medical Center.

Thomas is the beloved father of Deborah Gilmartin (Lesiczka) of Haverhill, MA and Sue Ellen Gilmartin-Perry of Wall Township, NJ. Thomas, affectionately known as Sonny to his many friends and relatives and Augie by his five grandchildren, lived in Monroe since 1973 and was formerly from the Bronx.

He was a sharp witted, proud Irishman who loved to travel and enjoyed the company of his many friends and family. He celebrated his 79th birthday just two weeks ago, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, eating cake and enjoying laughs with them.

Thomas was the eldest son of John and Susan Gilmartin, who came to New York from Ireland to begin their family. He was born in Manhattan in 1932 and attended St. Francis deChantel grammar and Rice High School in New York City. After graduation, Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended FIT in Manhattan and worked for many years in the Textile Industry in the New York area. He was an active member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Harriman, as well as a Knight of Columbus.

Thomas was previously the loving husband to Kathleen Donoghue-Gilmartin who passed away in 1990. They were married for 32 happy years and enjoyed raising their daughters together as well as traveling to many great places.

He found love again, and was joyfully married to Barbara Lefkowicz (formerly Candy) on Sept. 6, 1997. They enjoyed 14 years of marriage, traveling to places including, Florida, Ireland, England, Scotland and Australia, exploring new places and often visiting with extended family and dear friends.

Thomas is survived by his devoted and tender wife, Barbara, who remains in Monroe; daughter and her husband, Deborah Gilmartin-Lesiczka and Michael Lesiczka of Haverhill, MA; daughter and her husband, Sue Ellen Gilmartin-Perry and Richard Perry of Wall, NJ; granddaughters: Kaitlin, Kris, and Kelly Lesiczka; grandsons, Brendan and Ryan Perry; step-daughters, Laura Candy-Pcolar and her husband, Walter Pcolar, and Lisa Candy; step-sons, Matthew Candy and Michael and his wife, Jennifer Candy; step-grandchildren: Leona and Ethan Pcolar, Kaylee Lewis, Austin and Justin Candy; brother of Kevin, Patrick and Steven.

Donations may be made to the Covenant House, Times Square Station, P.O. Box 731, New York, NY 10108-0900 or the American Cancer Society, Hudson Valley Regional Office, 95 Schwenk Dr., Kingston, NY 12401.
