Husband's obituary: Richard L. Eber, 83, of rural Columbia City, died Monday, April 13, 2015 at his home. He was born March 6, 1932 in Muncie, a son of the late Virgil C. and Clara (Milligan) Eber. He began his elementary education in Selma. The family then moved to Loon Lake and he completed seventh and eighth grades at Etna. He graduated from North Webster High School.

On July 31, 1954 he was united in marriage to Arlene J. Alexander. They made their home at Tri-Lakes for four years then moved to Columbia Township. Arlene died April 27, 1999.

He began his work career at the former Weatherhead–Dana at age 18 and retired with 47.5 years of service. He served as a Columbia City Reserve Police Officer from 1968 to 1972. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne and the Weatherhead Pioneer Club.

He is survived by his two sons, Tracy L. Eber, of Columbia City and Troy L. Eber, of South Whitley; a daughter, Trissa (Warren) Sharp, of Riceville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Jack Eber; of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Sue Hobbs.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in Eberhard Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests all visitors wear casual attire.
Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society.
