Notes:

Edna M. Hunt, age 91, of Muncie, IN, and formerly of Huntington, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

Edna was born on June 7, 1932, to Ida Eash & Daniel Yoder in Lagrange County. Born Amish, her mother told her she was almost born in a buggy as she was late getting home from a visit. When she was three, her family left the Amish and moved to Wolcottville, IN. Later, they moved to Columbia City where she met the love of her life, Al, at the roller rink and they married on August 9, 1952.

Through the years she worked in numerous government offices, as well as the Huntington schools as a tutor. She also worked nights in a factory so she could be with her children after school. Edna retired in 2000 after 26 years at the Huntington County Extension Office as the secretary to the 4-H agent. She really loved her job with 4-H. The kids and the fair were the highlights of her job.

Edna was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi for 25 years. She was very involved with her church, Central Christian Church, participating in the women’s group, making noodles, and helping in the kitchen during most meals. She also loved reading, working crossword puzzles, baking, sewing, crocheting, and painting her and Al’s woodworking projects. She was also in a monthly euchre card club with many of her friends. She received a Volunteer Service Award for 3500 hours of volunteering at Huntington Parkview Hospital. Along with her good friend Patti, she was an avid walker. They would usually walk about 10 miles a week together after volunteering and did so up until 2020. She was also an avid Pacers fan who kept track of all of their stats. She rarely missed a game on TV, and at times, the whole family would go to a home game, which she and Al just loved!

Edna is survived by two sons, Robert Hunt of Fort Wayne, and Gary Hunt (Mary Ellen Scott) of Huntington; one daughter Sheri (Rick) Williams, Muncie; four grandchildren, Justin, and Jonah Hunt, both of Huntington, April (Alex) Morrison, and Brett Williams, both of Muncie; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Peggy Carrel of Dallas, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Al; one brother, Harley Yoder; sisters, Sue King, Dorothy Hansen, and Mazie Harper; daughter-in-law Tina (Gamble) Hunt, and great-grandson Conner Hunt.

Friends may call at Central Christian Church, 500 MacGahan Street, Huntington, IN, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023, with services beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Marion, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in care of McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences to www.mcelhaneyhartfuneralhome.com
