Notes:	Eldora K. "Dorie" Daniel, 81, died at 2:20 am Sunday, December 22, 2013 in the Renaissance Village following a lengthy illness. She was born on January 2, 1932 in Butler, Indiana, a daughter of Harold D. and Henrietta Packer King. In 1940, her family moved to a farm in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County. She attended the Thorncreek Township School, graduated from the Columbia City High School in 1949 and the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. On September 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Daniel L. Daniel and they made their first home in Norfolk, Virginia where Mr. Daniel was serving in the U. S. Navy. She was first employed at the Norfolk Memorial Hospital. Following the discharge of Mr. Daniel from military duty, they returned to Columbia City. She was employed at the Whitley County Memorial Hospital from 1952 to 1960 and 1966 to 1969, served as supervisor and assistant director of nursing at the Alfran Nursing Home from 1972 to 1976. Then from 1976 to 1982 was the director of nurses at the Columbia City Community Care Center and from 1983 to 1998 worked for the Whitley County Home Health Care. She was a member of the Delta Theta Tau, volunteered as a Red Cross Nurse, delivered meals on wheels and books on wheels. Dorie enjoyed playing golf and bridge. The surviving relatives include her husband of sixty-one years, Dan; four sons, M. David (Kathy) Daniel, Keizer, OR, Douglas A. (Katheryne) Daniel, Darrin L. (Jill) Daniel and Marc D. (Janice) Daniel all of Columbia City; grand children, Ryan, Jeffrey, Matthew, Dustin, Zachary, Tucker, Tanner and Taylor Daniel, David and Joel Sherman; a brother, Roderick King, Columbia City, two sisters, Carolyn Fleck, Warsaw and Treva Berry, Stockton, CA. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm Saturday in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Rev. Amanda Daniel officiating. The burial will be in the South Park Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral Home. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Southern Care Hospice; 7557 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46804.
